Air on Broadbeach

Thursday, January 19th, 2006 2 Commented

The beachfront Gold Coast suburb of Broadbeach is emerging as one of Australia’s pacesetter in innovative and adventurous apartment tower design, says a leading architect.

Barry Lee, design director for DBI Design, says towers such as the just-completed Air on Broadbeach and the partly-built Wave and Ultra display architectural quality that ‘is second to none’.
He says the Gold Coast City Council has played a major role in the ‘design daring’ being shown by developers at Broadbeach.
“The Gold Coast has long been viewed by people in the capital cities as a bit of a joke when it comes to architecture and urban design.

“It’s been seen as a design backwater, a place where apartment towers usually little more than expedient boxes lightly decorated.
“What is taking place at Broadbeach is helping the city earn credibility for its architecture and its built environment.”
