Broadbeach Parking
Broadbeach’s parking woes will be eased under plans for an $800 million apartment project with more than three hectares of basement. The twin-tower venture, with ground-level shops and alfresco dining, is planned immediately south of the Oasis shopping centre and will have close to 1100 parking spaces. The company behind the project, the Nikiforides family’s Niecon Developments, says the top level of a three-floor basement will have 258 spaces for public and commercial use.
Niecon’s plans have been unveiled on the heels of a city council report showing that the peak parking occupancy level at Broadbeach is running at 96 per cent. Broadbeach councillor Eddy Sarroff said earlier this year that parking and traffic were ‘primary issues’ for his suburb. In June fellow councillor Sue Robbins said parking was at a premium at Broadbeach.
“If people can’t park, they won’t go there,” she said.
